Tempeh is an excellent ingredient for making versatile vegan cuisine. This Indonesian staple is a national treasure and has rich nutrition and a long history. The Chinese name for tempeh was created by Dr. Susianto Tseng using two Chinese characters which sound like “tempeh” and together mean, “the treasure from heaven.” On the evening of June 9, 2019, Dr. Karunas Zhu, President of the Taiwan Vegan Academy and Co-Founder of the WVO, and Dr. Susianto Tseng, the father of Tempeh, Founder and President of the WVO World Vegan Organisation, arrived in Kaohsiung – Taiwan. Midnight’s Summer: Tempeh Celebration successfully set a new milestone for Southern Taiwan vegan tempeh cuisine. Together we put the spotlight on Xiang Heh Jia Biotech, Sen Guangfeng Vegetarian Cuisine and the Lite Dim Sum Vegan Restaurant providing a new stage for tempeh in Kaohsiung – Taiwan.

Dr. Susianto Tseng, who teaches at Stikes Kuningan, Indonesia, said, “Many people are still worried that vegan diets could lead to nutritional deficiencies. In fact, the highest protein is not in eggs, or milk, soybeans are 34% protein, and green beans are 24%, compared to only 12% in eggs. ” In his slide show, he compared the protein content in foods.

“Tempeh” is a masterpiece of soybean fermented food. In addition to high protein, tempeh is rich in calcium, phosphorus, iron and vitamin A. Although spinach has more iron than tempeh, the fermented tempeh enzyme is active, which helps it to be easily digested and absorb calcium, phosphorus, iron, and vitamins!

In addition to high nutrition values and absorption, tempeh contents healthy unsaturated fat. In contrast to meat, which contains saturated fat and raises cholesterol levels. Evidenced shows that higher intakes of saturated fat increase the risk for cardiovascular disease. The benefits of tempeh are inexhaustible. We can’t appreciate more this magnificent gift from heaven!
